On Friday, March 15th, MSU Denver and PeaceJam will co-host Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Rigoberta Menchú Tum at the Tivoli Turnhalle, 900 Auraria Pkwy., the first indigenous woman to have ever won the Nobel Peace Prize, for a public lecture. As one of the most widely recognized political and human rights activists in Central America, Rigoberta was recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 for her social justice work and efforts to achieve ethno-cultural reconciliation based on respect for the rights of indigenous peoples. For those interested in a more intimate audience with Rigoberta, a VIP reception will occur directly preceding the Public Talk. While, General Admission tickets have sold out, seats have been reserved for MSU faculty and students. These tickets are available through a separate registration form. Walk with Mayor Michael B. Hancock and members of his staff at the Denver’s 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Parade. “Hey Denver! I hope you can join me in a couple of weeks,” said Mayor Hancock. Meet and greet at 830 a.m. for a light breakfast before we step off and don’t forget to wear green. Bring your friends and family and let’s celebrate this Denver tradition.

Chicano Power 1969! The Birth of a Movement consists of 2-1 act plays: Fire in the Streets and War of the Flowers; Fire in the Streets” retells the Denver West High Walkouts which was led by one hundred fifty Chicano students on March 20, 1969. “War of the Flowers” depicts the story of a Chicana led strike at the Kitayama Carnation Factory in Brighton, Colorado.
