Say thank you and share why Educators Matter

Colorado Teacher Appreciation Week is Monday through Friday, May 6-10, a week during which we honor the men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children.

“Colorado has nearly 60,000 public school K-12 teachers who every day enrich the lives of our children,” said Colorado Education Commissioner Katy Anthes. “Research shows that teachers have a bigger impact on student performance than any other school-based factor. Every week should be Teacher Appreciation Week. We know how hard they work and how dedicated they are to our students and we can never thank them enough.”

During this week, which coincides with National Teacher Appreciation Week, the public can express its gratitude on social media by sharing a post, image or video with signs thanking a teacher and using the hashtag, #ThankATeacherCO. This year’s theme is “Educators Matter.” Share why Educators Matter or give a shout out to a teacher who has made a difference in your life. Tag a friend and invite them to also give thanks.

Every year Colorado recognizes an exemplary teacher as the state’s Teacher of the Year. Meg Cypress, a fifth-grade teacher at Bradley International School in Denver Public Schools, was named the 2019 Colorado Teacher of the Year in October. The video above tells Meg’s story.

Do you know an outstanding teacher? Say “Thank You” during Colorado Teacher Appreciation Week and nominate them for the 2020 Colorado Teacher of the Year Award. Visit http://bit.ly/2H1Roo2 for more information.
