To raise awareness about the millions of older adults who experience elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (#WEAAD) is commemorated globally each year on June 15. In honor of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2019, Denver leaders will recognize and celebrate the Denver Police Department’s Special Victims’ Unit for their dedication and diligence in protecting our city’s older adults.
In 2018, more than 1,600 mandatory reports of elder and vulnerable adult abuse were received in Denver. All of these reports were handled by the Special Victims’ Unit of the Denver Police Department. Members of that unit will be honored by Denver District Attorney, Beth McCann; Denver Director of Prosecution and Code Enforcement for the City Attorney’s Office, Marley Bordovsky; and Deputy Executive Director of Denver Human Services, Joe Homlar.
