The prices Americans are paying for vet care for their animals is huge, according to the American Pet Products Association. The association says Americans spend over $70 billion on their pets and around 25 percent of those funds goes toward vet care.

Most people would do anything to save their pets or help him or her heal from an injury or from being sick Ė but vet care prices can be expensive. Sometimes, prices can reach thousands of dollars for one visit.

One way to lower prices for vet care is to purchase pet insurance.

Pet care can be helpful for unexpected illnesses or injuries, but it differs from human health care. It doesnít take care of everyday preventive care.

Purchasing pet insurance can be a useful thing, but only if your pet is in a serious accident or has a life-threatening illness. If your pet happens to be in that situation, you can be forced to make a tough decision like having to euthanize your pet if you canít afford to purchase any form of treatment.

There then arises an issue with pet insurance Ė you may never need it. However, it can also help to save your animalís life in the event that something unfortunate happens.

Consumers advocate put together a list of the ten best pet insurance of 2019. According to its website, at consumeradvocate.org, consumers advocate look at reimbursement policies and coverage to help pet owners make a decision on what kind of pet insurance is best for them.

Consumers advocateís top ten pet insurers are Healthy Paws, Pet Plan, Embrace Pet Insurance, Progressive, Nationwide, Proud Pet Pet Insurance, Figo Pet Insurance, Pets Best, ASPCA Pet Health Insurance and Hartville Pet Insurance.

According to Value Penguin, a site that helps to provide clarity to financial decisions, pet insurance monthly rates can be from anywhere to $10 to $100. The site says most people spend between $30 to $50 per month for a plan with a decent coverage. Multiple factors can impact insurance rates including your petís age, species and breed and where you live. Dogs are more expensive than cats, but older animals and larger animals create higher pet insurance rates.

When going to a vet with a dog who has an upset stomach, the price for a vet visit averages to a little bit over $365. Allergies is the second most common condition for dogs, as it costs $234.84, on average.

When considering pet insurance, it is smart to think about your petís age, if your pet is sick or hurt right now and if you want to pay a monthly insurance premium. There are around 12 major pet insurers in the country.
