Letter to the Editor:

On Saturday February 1st, the faithful of Our Lady of Visitation Catholic Church assembled at the prestigious, honorable American GI Forum. The OLV TEAM OF LAWYERS were there to make a presentation of the status of the fight to save their church. Sandi Garcia (CPA), Chairman of the Goat Hill Catholic Society prepared a flow chart to give a full report due to the highly complex nature of cases at the Catholic Church’s highest court. The report tracked where the petition process began in 2017 to where it is today.

Attorneys were there to clarify and present specifics.

At Vatican City in Rome, the Team is supported by an Italian Attorney, as the case falls under canon law and not US civil law. This process is very constrained, time consuming, and favoring the church hierarchy establishment while denying many critical rights to the parishioners.

The Goat Hill Catholic Society, a non-profit group of determined OLV Parishioners who have worked for years to keep hope alive and fund the case. Determined to seek and achieve JUSTICE. In the case, former Archbishop Charles Chaput has stepped in, in an attempt to invalidate a decree that he himself wrote in 2010. He is now claiming that he was only filing a decree so that church assets could be insulated from legal liabilities related to the priest scandals of the US. He has thus stepped into this case to deny a hard-working parish of its rights as a recognized ‘juridic person’ under canon law. Likewise, Archbishop Samuel Aquila has also stepped in to deny the parishioners any rights. The Goat Hill Catholic Society continues to push for the Church under Pope Francis to support devoted lay persons. Recently, Pope Francis has communicated as much by not elevating Archbishop Chaput to a cardinal post. Chaput has instead submitted his resignation which was readily accepted by Pope Francis. The Catholic Church is truly moving in ways to protect the lay persons that protect our sacred spaces, and that bodes very well para los fieles de OLV!

The OLV team of lawyers is now advancing the OLV case.

The casue of this battle is simple. Devout Catholics fighting to save what has taken years of dedication, team effor, and humble by proud perserverance.

Land and facilities built over a period of eighty plus years. All in great condition, a savings account of well over $245,000 coming from one Burrito, one Cake, and one Bazaar at a time. The persistent work of a largely humble, but proud, blue collar community.

Sadly a professionally prepared conceptual plan to relatively match or surpass other Parish Beautification Projuects in the Denver Archdiocese was in progress. The abrupt and simply announced decision to close this eighty year old parish stopped the plan in its tracks.

Our Church is now surrounded by major developments (Midtown, Light Rail, etc.). What are the implications??? News assets for sale or new perisherner for our Lady of Visitation continued growth.

Join us on Facebook (GOAT HILL CATHOLIC SOCIETY) to fully understand our current plight, and our proud history. It’s strong spiritually driven, family driven efforts by simple and often quiet, blue collar Parishioner’s persistence. Since the 1930s.

Masses: March 25th and June 1st, both at 6:30 p.m.

Prayer Hour: Thursday, 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Visitation Chapel (720)-275-0813.
