Lesotho prime minister resigns - Thomas Thabane, former prime minister for Lesotho, has resigned from his position. Thabane was named a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife. His current wife was charged in connection to the murder. Thabane’s ex-wife, Lipolelo Thabane, was shot and killed by gunmen in 2017.
South African president neglects social distancing rules - Photos emerged of Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa, standing close to strangers while he posed for a photo. He joked about getting arrested for not following social distancing recommendations, despite urging social distancing. There are over 1,100 COVID-19 cases in the country.
New dinosaur found in Australia - In Australia, a fossil found by a volunteer showed a toothless dinosaur that existed in the country 110 million years ago. The dinosaur is called an elaphrosaur and had a long neck and short arms. Scientists believe the dinosaur didn’t eat much meat.
Sex dolls in South Korea soccer stadium stands - The FC Seoul soccer team apologized after the team put sex dolls in the stands of its stadium. The team thought the sex dolls were mannequins. They had advertisements on them for pornography websites. Pornography is banned in South Korea
Spain to offer basic income - Spain will start a monthly basic income to help out those who have been affected most by the pandemic. At least 100,000 households will receive an income. Adults can receive at least $500 a month. Spain’s COVID-19 daily death numbers dropped to below 100 over the weekend for the first time since March.
Recovery fund proposed by Germany and France - Germany and France want the European Union to distribute around $545 billion to EU countries who have suffered the worst from COVID-19. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel both agreed on the idea on Monday. The European Central Bank said the plan is welcomed.
Hospitals near capacity in Sao Paulo - Bruno Covas, the mayor of Sao Paulo in Brazil, said the city’s hospitals have hit around 90 percent capacity. He said they could run out of space in two weeks. Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro has spoken against coronavirus restrictions and even joined in protests against anti-virus measures.
Mexican journalist killed - Jorge Armenta was killed in an armed attack in northern Mexico. He was the director of Medios Obson, a media outlet. At least 140 journalists have been killed in Mexico since 2000. Armenta is the third journalist killed this year in Mexico.
All Coloradans can get tested for COVID-19 - Colorado Gov. Jared Polis announced on Monday that all Coloradans can get tested for COVID-19 if they show symptoms of the virus. He took a test while speaking at a press conference to show how quickly and easily the testing is done. Tests were previously being held only for health care workers, first responders and those who were working in places like nursing homes.
Trump taking unproven drug* - President Donald Trump said he has been taking hydroxychloroquine to stop the coronavirus. The drug is unproven to stopping the virus, and health officials have said it may not be safe to take the drug. However, clinical trials for the drug have been conducted.
