The University of Colorado COVID-19 vaccination event at one of Coors Field parking lots this past weekend looked like a model of professionalism and excellence. It proves that when things are well intended and well organized, stated goals of putting vaccines in the arms of a large number of people can be reached.
It was a breath of fresh air to see the State of Colorado partner with a health organization that allows our medical professionals to dramatically exercise their deep commitment to our well-being. I saw it first hand and it was very well done. I got my first shot and will be back in February for my second. erotik shop I also took a moment to reflect on the suffering our country has endured at the hands of the pandemic and the bumbling foolishness of our political leaders at the highest level.
Because of our relative unpreparedness, the COVID deaths in America are at the same level that our country experienced in World War II. The necessary price in lives paid in Second World War resulted in our country becoming a global super power with the ability to lead the world.
The unnecessary price we are paying for the pandemic has turned the nation on itself and our response has looked at times like that of a third-world country. Even though a great effort was spent on making it political, the Coronavirus defied those gestures and continues on its killing spree.
I am particularly taken with the plight of our farmworkers that toil in the fields with little or no protection. As the President of the Board of Directors of the largest migrant Head Start project in the country I get to see up close the suffering of the children and their families. A week does not go by that we are asked to dig into our non-federal funds to help a family afflicted by the virus. It seems that applications for assistance are constantly being circulated among the decision-makers and every time our humanity says that we must help.
After I signed up for the vaccine, I was not sure where to go for my appointment. The schedule said the event would occur in a Coors Field parking lot. So, instead of calling the phone number given for directions, 2 days before the event I drove to the area thinking I could identify the site. I tried it twice and spent a couple of hours without success. After failing, I decided to call. The correct location information had been there all of the time.
This reminds me of a scene in an Argentine novel where the protagonist walked into a dark apartment and immediately felt put upon by monsters of the night. In her case, all she had to do was to turn on the lights. Just like what she did, all I had to do was make a phone call to find out where to go. The rest of the experience was simple and straight forward.
Even though our State and Nation are going through some tough times, the character of the vaccine event gave me a sense of comfort that we as a community are in good hands when it comes to dealing with the pandemic in Colorado. There is a lot to be said about professionalism and the knowledge behind it.
The quality of the Coors Field vaccination experience also tells me we will have better days ahead because we are confronting a disease with science on our side.
