There’s no doubt the pandemic has had a lasting effect on sports worldwide. Fans across the country are watching games from the comfort of their homes (except Comcast customers), while teams are playing in front of scarce crowds usually made up of organization staff, friends and family.
That particular factor has been a large part of sports and without it home-court/field/ice advantage is almost nil.
Last Monday the Colorado Avalanche (Avs) lost 3-0 to the Las Vegas Knights at home, the following Wednesday the Avs fell to the Arizona Wild 6-2 at home. All together the Avs have won 3 of their last 6, with only one of those wins at home. Despite Colorado’s home struggles over the past week, they did manage to win two of three over the Wild but lost after giving up four goals in the third to the San Jose Sharks on Monday night in California.
This week the Avs remain in California for game two of two versus the Sharks Wednesday night, and then return home for a nine game home stretch. In most cases fans would be ecstatic about the home stretch however due to the Avs recent struggles at home teams can become complacent during a long home stretch and fans aren’t as enthusiastic about the upcoming 9-game home stand.
The Avs will face the Anaheim Ducks in a two-game series that kicks off Friday and ends Saturday. They will then host the Phoenix Coyotes in a two-game series that begins next Monday at 7 p.m. MST. The Avs will then host the L.A. Kings for a two-game series that begins Friday March 12, at 7 p.m. while Sunday’s game is slated for 5 p.m. Colorado closes out their 9-game home stretch with the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. and then begin a two-game series with the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 20 at 1 p.m.
In other sports the Nikola Jokic lead Denver Nuggets beat the Chicago Bulls 118-112 on Monday night in Chicago. Jokic led all scorers with 39 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists. Jamal Murray helped out with 24 points while Michael Porter Jr. added an additional 17 points.
The Nuggets are 4-2 in the their last six games with wins over the Cavaliers, the Portland Trailblazers, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Bulls. The Nuggets are on the road this week to face the Milwaukee Bucks (had not been played at the time of this writing, scheduled 7 p.m. March 2), the Indiana Pacers (Thursday, March 4, at 6 p.m.), and the Memphis Grizzlies (Friday, March 12, at 6 p.m.).
The Colorado Rockies kicked off 2021 Spring Training with a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 on Sunday. The Rockies followed up with 10-0 shutout loss to the L.A. Dodgers on Monday and are scheduled to face the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. Colorado’s Opening Day will start on April 1st against the L.A. Dodgers in game one of a four-game series.
