As summer heats up so do the boys of summer. The Colorado Rockies have one of the best home records in baseball and are leading every other team in walk-off wins, after Sunday’s win at Coors Field against the ex-Rockie Nolan Arenado and the St. Louis Cardinals. St. Louis is hovering below .500 after the Arenado acquisition six games better than the Rockies.
The Rockies, however, got the best of St. Louis after defeating them 3 games to 1 in a a best of four at Coors Field. On Thursday last week the Rockies took game one beating the Cardinals 5-2. Game two kicked off the Fourth of July weekend with the Rockies losing to the Cardinals in extra innings after giving up 6 runs in the 10th inning.
Game three was a battle til the end with the Cardinals and Rox tied up with two runs each heading into the 9th inning. With the winning run on second, catcher Elias Diaz blasted a three-run walk-off homerun to beat the Cardinals 5-2.
The following night was just as spectacular as both teams again were knotted at two apiece heading into the 9th, with the winning run on second base (Fuentes) and Elias Dias once again at the plate facing three balls and two strikes hit a grounder through third base and short-stop into left field, brining Fuentes home for the Rockies win 3-2.
Despite Denver, and the Colorado Rockies hosting the MLB All-Star game this upcoming weekend, several Colorado Rockies were snubbed for the All-Star selection with only a single Rockie making the cut in German Márquez, a starting pitcher for Colorado. Colorado Rockies, Trevor Story was the biggest snub for Colorado as the short stop currently has 11 homeruns, 41 RBI’s and a .288 batting average over the past 15 games.
While not as many players from the Rockies will be performing in this weekend’s All-Start festivities, the City of Denver welcomes players from both the NL and AL for Colorado’s first All-Star game at Coors Field.
