Broncos quarterback battle at a near stalemate

We are about a week into the Denver Broncos training camp and we’re no closer to knowing who will be under center for Denver come game one of the regular season. Right now as it stands the quarterback position is leaning slightly in Drew Lock’s direction after not throwing a single interception until Monday afternoon when cornerback rookie Patrick Surtain II jumped the route and snagged Lock’s pass.

Lock’s interception marked his first of training camp, showing the quarterbacks improvement from turning over the ball. Lock, who played well at the end of the 2019 season threw 15 interceptions his first season, leading fans to think he might not be the answer behind center for the Broncos.

As a result, the Broncos went out and signed Teddy Bridgewater a, tested and more consistent option, however; Coach Vic Fangio made it clear that he isn’t a big fan of check-downs after offering this, “Check-downs are good, but you need more than check-downs. We need the right mix of that.” Bridgewater got the message and stepped out of his comfort zone on day 4, which unfortunately resulted in an interception. For the time being, fans get a chance to watch these two battle it out for the top spot while Denver’s defense continues to shine at camp.

In other sports the Colorado Rockies split a four-game series with the San Diego Padres over the weekend beating the Padres 9-4 in game two and 5-3 in game three. This week the Rockies are hosting a depleted Chicago Cubs team after several key players were traded just before the trade deadline last week making it the biggest 24-hour roster dump in the franchise’s history.

The Rockies still remain near the bottom of the NL West “just,” 21 games out from the first place San Francisco Giants. Colorado has managed to stay above the Arizona Diamondbacks who are about 13 and a-half-games behind the Rockies.

The Denver Nuggets made a splash in the draft picking up Bones Hyland of VCU adding more depth to an already deep bench. The Nuggets are also bringing back Will Barton, JaMychal Green and Austin Rivers. The Nuggets are also looking to add ex Booklyn Net, Jeff Green to a two year, $10 million deal.

The Colorado Avalanche have made some meaningful signings in the post-season after losing to the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the playoffs four games straight. These signings offered more depth, however, the Avalanche failed to bring back some notable free agents who have made significant contributions while in an Avalanche uniform, the most notable, Philipp Gurbauer who signed with the Seattle expansion team the Kraken.

Grubauer had been a fan favorite leading the Avs into the playoffs on some of the best goalie play in the league. He, unfortunately will be offering his outstanding stopping skills for another team, leaving the Avs with a huge hole to fill before October.
