PROFILE

Born in Galveston and raised in Roma, Texas DeLeon knew she could sing from a very early age. As a preschooler DeLeon confidently sang her ABC’s in opera mode. Music was part of her school years as well as vocal training in Laredo. During her senior year she met and traveled with a popular Mexican group called Grupo Control and she learned about the music industry inside and out for the next six years. In 2006 DeLeon was hired by a local radio station, then she later joined Univision and the local Fox station as meteorologist in South Texas. DeLeon offers, “I always felt that God had a plan for me and opened doors for me.” She was approached by a national talent agency who encouraged her to apply for the meteorologist position at 9NEWS in 2012. She did and landed that job and has been with 9NEWS since. DeLeon and her husband Ivan have three boys, Ivan Jr., 7, Isai, 4 and Izak, 3. DeLeon likes spending time with her family, cooking and watching them play soccer. DeLeon is a Gold Album recipient (over 100,000 units sold) of an album titled “A Toda Onda.”

9NEWS debuted in 1952 and is located at 500 Speer Blvd. The award-winning station is the news leader by Nielsen rating standards. 9NEWS is also known for its community involvement with programs such as 9 Who Cares, the 9NEWS Health Fair, and more. DeLeon offers, “9NEWS is the best of the best, and I am a better person for working here. The bar is set high at 9NEWS and therefore the quality is great for our viewers.”

HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

DeLeon was ranked #11 out of 300 graduating seniors. She was a well-rounded student who was involved in sports, choir, student council, drama, etc. Roma High School was a primarily Latino school where Deleon had many friends and “hung out with everyone.”

MESSAGE TO YOUTH

“There are no shortcuts in life, no easy road. Work hard and see the big picture.”

LAST WORD

“Mi madre dice que soy terca. That’s probably true. But being hard-headed comes in handy when so many doors close for you, and all you need is to wait for the right one to open.”
