“You’ve come a long way, baby”

Last week Denver International Airport (DIA) celebrated 20 years. Two decades since the visionary former Mayor Federico Peña “imagined a great city.” Peña envisioned an international airport to be built miles away from the city of Denver that provided an economic boost to Colorado’s future. Today, DIA is considered a world-class international airport and Colorado is reaping the economic rewards of this vision.

La Voz was honored in a very special and historic way and included in a piece of American (Colorado) History. In honor of their 100th anniversary, DIA compiled a collection of several items to drop into a time capsule to be opened up in 2095, DIA’s 100th anniversary. One of those items dropped into the time capsule was a copy of La Voz newspaper. Thank you DIA for including La Voz in a piece of American (Colorado) History. We stand proud, and we are honored. Our pride extends to those who open the time capsule in 2095 as it will be noted that La Voz represented the face of a community that spoke and honored both the English and Spanish languages.

Since 2008, other great La Voz accomplishments include:

• An exclusive face-to-face interview with President Barack Obama in 2012 (Audio at www.lavozcolorado.com)

• An expansion of our weekly publication into southern Colorado (Pueblo)

• Awarded outstanding bilingual publication by the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) in 2013

• Awarded outstanding bilingual website (www.lavozcolorado.com) by the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) in 2013.

• Awarded over 50 industry awards by the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) since 2008.
