Fifty years ago the birth of the Toyota Corolla impressed us with a safe, reliable and affordable automobile, with few, if any, frills. Over the last 50 years Toyota Corolla has sold over 43 million of these affordable, yet reliable automobiles holding the status of the world’s all-time best selling car.

Memories of my first ride in a Toyota Corolla nick named “Lurch” date back to 1972 when my friend and I drove back and forth to college between Albuquerque and my hometown, a distance of 177 miles.  No air conditioning in the summer but a great heater in the winter.  We filled up with a whopping $5 and still had over a quarter tank to get us to class and back for the week.

Corolla may be the world’s best selling car of all-time, but for me and my friend it represents life-long memories and adventures as we traveled down the highway singing along to The Rolling Stones blaring on the double speaker AM radio.

As I drove the new shiny 2017 Toyota Corolla on my way to the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival, it felt so comfortable and safe. The 2017 Corolla gets exciting updates to match the styles of the needs and expectations of today’s drivers. All Corolla vehicle grades have available Toyota Safety Sense-P, which is a host of safety features including: Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection function, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist function, automatic high beams and more.

You can feel safe and confident as the 2017 Corolla is a smart choice for a family’s lifestyle. Standard features now include a backup camera, bi-led headlamps on L, LE, and LE Eco grades, complex LED standard on SE, XSE and XLE grades and a redesigned, upgrade interior, including audio enhancements focused on comfort and convenience.

The newest Corolla will remain a standout in its segment with roomy rear seats, standard Bluetooth, and Entune Audio, available Entune Audio Plus with integrated navigation and App suite. Both the Entune Audio Plus and Entune Premium Audio systems move from a 6.1-inch screen to a 7-inch screen for 2017.

The main event, however, is the 50th Anniversary Special Edition, and just 8000 will be sold. Based on the sporty 2017 Corolla SE, the 50th Anniversary Special Edition package reflects Corolla’s continuous commitment to driver happiness. The custom package of features brings in exclusive details to celebrate the love this car earns around the world.

The model includes, 17” Alloy Wheels, 7-inch High Resolution Touch Screen, Entune Audio Plus with Connected Navigation, color 4.2- inch TGT Mult information Display, Smart Key system with push button start, complex- LED headlamps, black mixed media seats with black cherry contrast stitching, black interior with black cherry contrast stitching on steering wheel & armrest, black cherry accented dash panel and door trim and 50th Anniversary Edition floor mats, 50th Anniversary Edition exterior badge and more.

Happy birthday Toyota Corolla, you remain in my heart!
