  Where Are They Now?
Rockies still on a hot streak

The Colorado Rockies are second in the National League and for good reason, they are playing good baseball. The Rockies ended the month of April with 16 wins and have started the month of May much the same way with four wins and only two losses. The only team better than Colorado in the National League are the Washington Nationals who are fighting a two-game losing streak.

The Rockies are hosting the Chicago Cubs (Cubbies) this week however, game one on Monday was delayed and eventually cancelled due to severe weather in the Denver area, with golfball-sized hail reported in some parts of the metro area. The game was the first of three and with the impending weather forecast for the week there will likely be more delays or cancellations for this week’s series versus the Cubbies. The League rescheduled Monday’s game to Tuesday creating a doubleheader with the Cubs. As of this writing the games are still on, however have not yet been played.

One of the reasons for Colorado’s early success this season has been the play of 1st baseman Mark Reynolds who’s batting average is .371 with 11 homers and a whopping 27 RBI’s. Colorado usually finds great hitters and that translates to exciting games for fans. This year Colorado is ranked 5th in slugging percentage, however one of the reasons for the NL’s number one teams (the Washington Nationals) success is also attributed to a first baseman. Nationals 1st baseman Ryan Zimmerman holds the top spot in batting average, home-runs, and RBI’s in the NL.

The Colorado Rockies lost three games to one in a four game series with the Nationals last month, and Colorado will unfortunately not be able to redeem themselves against Washington in the regular season. However, there’s still a lot of baseball to be played and plenty of opportunity to take the top spot in the NL.

The Rockies’ remaining schedule with the Cubs is as follows: Doubleheader Tuesday, at 2:10 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. The Rockies will finish up their series with the Cubs on Wednesday at 3:10 p.m. MST.

In other sports, things are not looking good for the Colorado Rapids as they fell to the Vancouver Whitecaps last week 0 - 1. Colorado is now in the 11th position (last) with one win and six loses. The Rapids will host the San Jose Earthquakes this Saturday at 2 p.m. MST.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez beat out Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a unanimous decision at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Canelo is scheduled to fight Russian boxer Gennady Golovkin in September.
