Northglenn PirateFest will be holding their Cardboard Boat Building competition at Webster Lake in Northglenn. This will be hosted in the Dogwood Pavilion, across from the boat dock area. Two of the past winners have put together a presentation and training program about their boats. Learn tips and tricks on how to build a sea worthy cardboard boat so you can sail to victory at the Northglenn PirateFest on Wednesday August 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm.

First Friday Art Walks continue in Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe, all year round, rain or shine, join us on First Fridays to visit more than 100 art galleries, artists’ studios, and creative businesses. A free guided shuttle loops every 20 minutes from the 10th and Osage light rail stop, down Kalamath and back north on Santa Fe Drive. For a list of events, visit www.artdistrictonsantafe.com/events. Support local artists and attend the Art Walk Friday, September 1, from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

A Taste of Colorado draws more than 500,000 visitors annually. Five entertainment stages include national, local, and ethnic music in a variety of genres, children’s performers, and much more. Festivalgoers also can try a variety of culinary delights from more than 50 of Colorado’s favorite food establishments, including a culinary showcase. Plus, visitors can enjoy the offerings of more than 275 marketplace artisans and vendors, as well as educational programs promoting the diverse cultural and Western heritage of the region - all for no admission fee. A Taste of Colorado will be held in Downtown Denver at the Civic Center Park, September 1 through September 4 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. For more information visit www.atasteofcolorado.com.

Join the Fossil Creek Nursery for a salsa competition on September 2nd to be entered to win prizes. All salsa entries must be dropped off to Fossil Creek Nursery by 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 2nd. Category winners will be announced at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to shop around the nursery and be present when judging takes place. Judging Categories: Hottest Hot; Most Mild; Uniquely Unusual; and Judge’s Choice. Gift certificates will be awarded to the top category winners and there will be a $75 grand prize for the salsa of choice.
