Joann Cortez was honored with the prestigious Al Turner Commitment To Excellence Award. The award honors individuals that have, through consistent business and professional excellence, provided leadership and/or fostered a sense of community in the World Waterpark Association membership.
Cortéz has served on the WWA’s Marketing & Communication Committee as Secretary, Vice Chair and Chair and has authored several articles for World Waterpark Magazine. She is often quoted in industry stories and by suppliers. Cortéz is often called upon by the WWA during media crises to share thoughts and suggestions. Hyland Hills Water World has been an ongoing and inaugural-year host location for the World’s Largest Swim Lesson with Cortéz as the organizer. Cortéz previously worked in media with the cable television industry, as a lobbyist; and as a staff assistant to former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm. Cortéz has two very successful children and eight grandchildren.
