Facing the end of summer in Colorado can be difficult. So we planned out a summer end excursion to the Colorado Mountains, reserving a cabin at the KOA Campgrounds north of Central City. We were ready to roll in our 2017 Toyota Prius. The KOA Campgrounds just a 5-minute drive from Central City and Black Hawk made for a glorious stay in Colorado’s high country. You must try out these cabins for a weekend and take in the beauty of Colorado’s high country.

Toyota has produced more than 5 million of these Prius models around the world. Here’s what we know about the 2017 model

This close-to-the-pavement impression is more than cosmetic, because the new model has a one-inch-lower center of gravity, thanks to the new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, which uses more high-strength steel and provides 60 percent greater torsional rigidity. With this platform, the Prius also gets a multilink rear suspension, which is heavier than the previous torsion beam and provides more favorable suspension, for better handling. This heavier suspension, along with the relocation of the hybrid battery from the trunk area to below the rear seat, probably accounts for most of the center-of-gravity reduction.

Passenger volume is smaller than before, but interior seating was extremely comfortable during our high country drive. Trunk space has grown in cubic feet—and even more in some versions. Inside, the 2017 Prius retains the traditional central instrument cluster, but the dashboard now sweeps into the doors and has a prominent central display with separate HVAC controls.

With Prius, the emphasis is on efficiency, achieved with its high-tech powertrain. This new model employs an upgraded version of the outgoing car’s Atkinson-cycle engine, with the addition of a cooled exhaust-gas-recirculation system, and faster combustion due to intake ports that increase tumble in the combustion chambers.

The 2017 Prius is the clear winnner on the road when it comes to fuel economy, and popularity at 54-mpg city and 50 on the highway.. We could not believe the distance achieved by a sole tank of gas!

So do yourself a favor, test drive the Toyota 2017 Prius today, and reserve a KOA Campground cabin in Central City next summer, arriving in your new 2017 Prius.
