In Memoriam Nancy Abeyta-Martinez
Nancy Abeyta-Martinez was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on January 14th 1953 to Felix and Tonita Martinez. One of five children, she grew up in North Denver and attended school at Mapleton High. Nancy briefly attended Community College of Denver before landing a job at Denver Peterbilt as an Administrative Assistant. She later moved on to a similar position with the Colorado Highway Patrol before making her way to the Colorado Department of Corrections at Camp George West in Golden. There, she entered and completed a training program to become a Corrections Officer before retiring early due to a work-related injury. Nancy was best known for her free spirit, golden heart, strength, sense of humor and selfless generosity. She was always the life of the party. She loved to take spontaneous trips to the mountains to “catch the sunset”, to watch the aspen leaves change in the fall, or to her family’s land in Chacon, New Mexico. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and a great friend. Nancy passed July 17, 2018 in Denver. She is survived by her siblings Pauline, Felix Jr., Bonnie, Lisa, her three children, Paula, Russell and Joshua, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. We will miss her dearly.
