Lakewood residents, friends and family are invited to enjoy free entertainment, games and children’s activities at Party on the Plaza, 4-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24 at Civic Center Plaza, 480 S. Allison Parkway. View public art on the plaza and visit the free art galleries inside Civic Center South and Lakewood Cultural Center. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Mexican Cultural Center in partnership with Alliance Sports Association, Museo de las Americas, and the Colorado Symphony Association are thrilled to present the “México en el Corazón”, a beautiful and exciting, free community concert showcasing the traditional dance and music from Mexico. For the past 33 years the Guadalajara Folkloric Ballet has served as the ambassador of Mexico in spreading its traditions all over the world. This year along with Mariachi Juvenil Colotlán they will put on an event that will help the community connect and learn about the Mexican traditions. México en el Corazón will be performing on Sunday, August 26, at 2:30 p.m. at Boettcher Concert Hall, 1000 14th St. Visit for more information.

Join the Rudy “Corky” Gonzales Branch Libray for an afternoon with Karen D. Gonzales, Writer of the short story “Finding the Lady Llorona,” on Saturday August, 25 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. Finding the Lady Llorona takes place in the 60’s in the West Colfax Neighborhood where three friends seek to find the truth about La Llorona in disguise at the gully by the railroad tracks and the area 50 years later.

Join the High Plains Environmental Center for a Scavenger Hunt and Nature Walk on Saturday, August 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the High Plains Environmental Center, 2698 Bluestem Willow Dr. A Scavenger Hunt Bingo board will be provided to guide the walk. This event is free, and open to the community. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event. Please email or call 970-622-9676 with any questions.

Get ready, Colorado Springs for the biggest and best pop culture convention in the Springs. This 3-day event, now in its third year, will feature celebrities from all genres of TV, movies and cartoons, some of the best names in the comic art community, as well as the greatest vendors in the area with those hard-to-find toys, comics, and collectibles. This event will be at Chapel Hills Mall on Friday August 24 through Sunday August 26 (Friday, 3 p.m. - 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Visit for more information.
