Become healthy and maintain good health

In a 2013 study published by Mayo Clinic Proceedings, statistics showed that less than three percent of Americans met the basic qualifications for a healthy lifestyle. Several accuse the busy factors in everyday lives today. However, there are still ways to be healthy even while having a busy schedule.

Being healthy is maintaining a lifestyle of wellness.It is not just about the physical but about the mental, emotional and spiritual. So, do not be discouraged if there is no time to go to the gym or even go for a run, by following just a few rules, being healthy is rather simple.

Eat consciously

Due to busy schedules, there is often the tendency to fly by fast food restaurants to grab lunch and scarf it down. However, the simplest factor of packing lunches and making sure to thoroughly chew every bite will not only ensure healthy choices but will actually help to lose weight. Chewing is a vital part of digesting food. When food is not chewed properly, the body has to use more energy to break it down in order to digest it. A study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that calorie intake decreased when the number of chews per bite increased. Chewing more also helps to slow down the consumption process

Enjoy sleep

It’s crucial to sleep, but the amount needed varies from person to person. On average adults need six to eight hours of sleep a night. While sleeping the body relaxes all its muscles and repairs heart and blood vessels. The brain, while sleeping, works to improve cognition, concentration, productivity and performance for the next day. Lack of sleep causes physical, mental, and emotional problems. It is linked to depression, mood swings, lack of motivation, stress and several health issues.

Stay hydrated

Drink at least 8 cups of water a day. Our bodies are made up of about 60 percent water, we need to stay hydrated to stay function. There are several studies showing the linkage between water and staying energized. With making sure to drink water the body does not have to work so hard. It can easily transfer nutrients, digest food, and maintain body temperature. Drinking water helps to improve complexion, flush out toxins and even can help in losing weight.

Remember self-care

Being healthy also includes being mentally and emotionally healthy, and is possibly the most important way to ensure a healthy lifestyle. When self-care seems impossible because there is no time, remember that there is always time for priorities. Listen to an encouraging and empowering podcast on the drive to work in the morning, or instead of looking at the phone screen first thing in the morning, look outside, breathe and stretch to start the morning with a clear mind.

So, even if the days seem long and the work is overflowing, there are still ways to be healthy. A lifestyle of wellness shouldn’t be seen as something difficult because it can be maintained in little ways throughout the day.
