Thirteen years ago the La Voz Student of the Week program kicked off and our first Student of the Week was Victoria Garcia. Garcia, daughter of community leader, Steve Garcia, is now a teacher and is appreciative of the many who helped her along the way.

In  2005 Jesus Lechuga, Jr. was highlighted as Student of the Week. A senior at North High School in 2005/2006 Lechuga excelled in academics and had plans to attend college and he eventually carried out his dream. Lechuga attended the University of San Diego and majored in accounting and finance in 2011, and is currently with the Denver City and County in the position of supervisor of the Commercial Real Estate Division. Lechua says, “being honored as the Student of the Week” gave me a boost of confidence and kept me striving to achieve my goals.”

Jarred Padilla was honored as one of our Student of the Week features in 2010/2011. He excelled at John F. Kennedy High School and graduated with a degree in computer information systems from Metropolitan State University of Colorado.. Padilla initially interned with Wells Fargo, learning the banking system. In 2014 Padilla interned with Autonomous Avionics, led by CEO/Founder Bernie Hoffman. He learned to build several types of drones. Padilla also worked at Whiting Petroleum Corp. as a Business Application Analyst. Padilla is currently with an oil company Resolute Energy Coproration in the position of Business Applications Analyst. Padilla adds, “Coming out of high school is always an unknown, getting into college, but having support such as La Voz gives you through scholarships give you confidence and makes it easier moving forward and motivates you to try harder.”

In 2008, David Rolla was featured as a Student of the Week, a graduate of Adams City High School. He attended and graduated from Dartmouth College in 2012. Rolla pursued law school and graduated from New York University Law School (NYU) earlier this summer.

La Voz is proud to highlight these students whose hard work and commitment has earned them a place in today’s competitive job market.

Next week La Voz’ 2018/2019 Student of the Week program kicks off. We welcome your student nominations via your high school administrators. A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to one deserving senior.
