WORDS TO LIVE BY
“Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald
I am part of a program named the Youth African American Latino Leaders (YAALL); we address social justice issues in the DPS system, and propose policies to the Board of Education in order to improve our education system. I am also part of another program similar to YAALL called the Colorado Youth Congress, where we address social justice issues on whole communities, and find and take action on changing them. I have also worked with middle school girls to train them in the sport of wrestling, showing them the basics and lifestyle of wrestling.
WHY IS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IMPORTANT?
Community involvement is important because it provides opportunities to develop life skills and grow as a leader and a young adult. It also allows for people who are not as fortunate as others to acquire resources they may not have access to.
IF I COULD IMPROVE THE WORLD I WOULD...
I would change our current president and provide more programs for immigrants and refugees. I would change all education systems by increasing teachers’ salaries, making college far more affordable, and by getting rid of the school to prison pipeline.
CHOICE OF COLLEGE
I have been accepted into Fort Hays State University, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Colorado Mesa University, and Colorado State University-Fort Collins. Although I am still waiting to hear from the 12 other schools I have applied to so far, my top 2 choices are Colorado Mesa and CSU Fort Collins.
