Rwanda bids to host F1 race
Rwanda President Paul Kagame confirmed that the country is bidding to host a Formula 1 grand prix. Reports suggest that F1 has had its eye on hosting a race in Africa. If a race comes to Rwanda, officials are planning on hosting the event at a new track near the new Bugesera airport.
Former Zambia president banned from seeking re-election
Former Zambia President Edgar Lunga will not be allowed to seek re-election in 2026 after a court ruled that he already served the maximum two terms allowed. Lunga began serving in 2015 to finish the remaining 20 months of President Michael Sata’s term, who died in office. He argued those 20 months shouldn’t have counted because he did not serve a full five-year term.

South Korea president impeached
Officials in South Korea have voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol after his failed attempt to institute martial law. Images showed thousands of protesters celebrating outside the National Assembly after lawmakers finished their vote. Yoon promised to keep fighting and described the vote as a temporary pause to his presidency.
North Koreans charged with fraud
A judge in St Louis elected to indict 14 North Koreans for allegedly being part of a scheme aimed at extorting funds from American companies. Thousands of North Korean IT workers allegedly used false, stolen, and borrowed identities from people in the United States and other countries. They allegedly generated at least $88 million that was funneled to North Korea’s weapons programs.

Former soccer payer elected president in Georgia
Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former soccer player for Manchester City, has been appointed president in Georgia. The country has recently experienced weeks of pro-EU protests. Kavelashvili is a former MP for the ruling Georgian Dream party, which has become increasingly authoritarian in its governance.
Five killed in France shooting
At least five people were killed in northern France in a series of shootings near a migrant camp. Officials said a 22-year-old man turned himself in to police and confessed to an earlier shooting in a nearby town. Among those killed include two security guards and two men staying in the camp.

Mexican judge killed
Judge Edmundo Roman Pinzon was shot and killed outside a courthouse in the Mexican city of Acapulco. He was attacked when he was driving out of the courthouse parking lot. Pinzon was a senior judge and was president of the highest court in the state of Guerrero. No arrests have been made in connection with the case.
Dengue fever cases on the rise
Cases of dengue fever in Central and South America have tripled to a record high this year, according to data from the Pan American Health Organization. Places like Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico have been hit especially hard by the virus. Dengue fever comes from mosquitos and can cause serious illness or even death in some cases.

Trump gets $15 million in defamation case
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will receive $15 million from ABC News to settle a defamation lawsuit. The case stems from an anchor falsely saying Trump had been found liable for rape. Last year, a court found Trump liable for sexual abuse. The payment from ABC News will also pay $1 million toward Trump’s legal fees.
Jamie Foxx injured at restaurant
Actor Jamie Foxx was involved in an altercation at a Beverly Hills restaurant, causing him to need stitches. He was celebrating his 57th birthday at the time of the incident. One of his representatives said someone at another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth. Police are investigating the incident.
