The Broncos win another nail-biter in the fourth quarter

Date:

The Denver Broncos were in Houston on Sunday, backed by a sea of orange and blue as fans filled NRG Stadium with Mile High energy.

Broncos fans had reason to worry early in the week when it was announced that both cornerback Patrick Surtain II and wide receiver/special teams ace Marvin Mims would be sidelined. The Houston Texans capitalized early, marching downfield for the first score of the game. But Denver’s defense held firm, forcing Houston to settle for a field goal.

The Broncos limited the Texans to four field goals before halftime, taking a 12–7 lead into the locker room. In the third quarter, Houston extended its lead to 15–3, and it looked like Denver’s string of late-game magic might be running out.

Then came the fourth quarter, where the Broncos have made their living all season.

Quarterback Bo Nix ignited the offense with a 27-yard touchdown pass to rookie running back R.J. Harvey, followed by a clutch two-point conversion to a Troy Franklin to tie the game at 15.

With under a minute remaining, Nix engineered one final drive—hitting Courtland Sutton on a sideline strike to move into field-goal range. With just three seconds left, Will Lutz drilled a 34-yarder through the uprights, giving the Broncos an 18–15 victory and improving their record to 7–2.

Denver continues to build its identity as one of the most resilient and composed fourth-quarter teams in the league.

In other sports, the Denver Nuggets hosted the Sacramento Kings at Ball Arena on Monday night. Denver led for most of the game, but Sacramento stayed within striking distance until the final minutes. The Nuggets held strong, earning a 130–124 win with six players scoring in double figures. Denver will face the Indiana Pacers this Saturday before hitting the road to take on the Kings, Clippers, and Timberwolves next week.

The Colorado Avalanche dropped a close one to the San Jose Sharks over the weekend but return to the ice Tuesday night to face the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Avs will then head north to Canada to take on the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks.
