Denver sports this week has hit a rough patch as the Major League Baseball (MLB) season approaches an end as the NFL preseason evolves.
The Denver Broncos were stomped Friday, August 21st by the hungry and more active Green Bay Packers in an upsetting 33-13 loss. Despite the team’s overall lacking performance, Friday night’s game brought us the first look at Bo Nix in action. Nix played for a total of 14 snaps totaling seventy-six yards, 6/9 receptions and a touchdown pass to running back RJ Harvey. Nix was excited for his return to the field, and it showed. On top of his performance, chemistry was another huge factor as our newly acquired wide receiver Jaylen Waddle had a seamless connection with Nix, going for thirty-five yards on his first reception as a Denver Bronco.
Back-up Jarrett Stidham and third stringer Sam Ehlinger would close the game out and the Broncos would not score another touchdown.
As the squad reflected on their loss following Friday’s game, many of our players both offensive and defensive expressed the same overall message, “that was not how we play”. The squad recognized that their performance was not up to par. The tone and poise during their interviews show fans that the Broncos are not afraid of facing their own failures and will take games like this as a lesson to improve.
A factor to consider is the injury-ridden roster, with Riley Moss joining the list as he sustained a rib injury and had an early exit. The Broncos have Moss on questionable status, another hit to the roster.
The Denver Nuggets have entered the headlines buzz within the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Nuggets, who shipped off fan-favorite Payton Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers have tried to get back in the public’s good graces with the new acquisition of Veteran and six-time all-star DeMar DeRozan. DeRozan is in the later stages of his decorated career, and his efficiency and experience should supplement the established and impressive roles of Jokic, Gordon and Murray. DeRozan is expected to sign a one-year $3.9 million vet-minimum “feeler” contract to evaluate his impact and future moves as a Denver Nugget.
As of this print the Rockies have lost seven of their last seven games. Earlier, the Rockies heading into the third and final game with the L.A. Dodgers home series lost 6-4 after Mickey Moniak tied the score for the Rockies at 4-4 with a two-run homer in the seventh. Since then, the Rockies were swept in yet another series against the Cleveland Guardians. The Rockies faced the Washington Nationals on Monday, with a final score of 3-13 losing to the Nationals and are scheduled to face the Atlanta Braves in enemy territory for a three-game series on Friday, August 28th.
