The Denver Broncos played Monday night versus our divisional counterparts, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs and were devastated. From the get-go the Kansas City Chiefs appeared to be the more cohesive squad. Defensively they gave Nix and company a tough night. An early first quarter pick would illustrate how the remainder of the game would unfold, as the suffocating and constant pressure applied from the Chief’s defense would prove to be too much for the Broncos O-line to handle; and the pocket was dismantled.
Some officiating was debatable throughout the matchup, however the Broncos’ inability to capitalize at all positions of the field paired with the overwhelming presence of a ready Chiefs squad in home territory would be the reason the Broncos could not find any rhythm through the night.
The offensive performance from KC paints a similar dominance as Mahomes led his offense through adversity and scored for a total of 31 points to Denver’s 10. The Chiefs run game looked sharp and will be an issue that the Broncos facilities will try to repair in future matchups. Kenneth Walker III’s presence on the field was piercing as he rushed for a total of 173 yards, picking up slack for Mahomes as he was still shaking off last season’s rust.
While the Broncos were embarrassed on Monday Night’s game, it provides a baseline for coaching staff and players to improve upon for upcoming games. While the Broncos did look promising during pre-season and training camp those extracurriculars do not paint the full picture. Monday’s game was a brutal wake-up call that this squad will have to be a lot more active, adaptable and prepared in future games.
Overall, week one of the 2026-2027 NFL kicked off, and jitters were at an all-time high. Week one brought football fans a plethora of unexpected plays and actions.
The reigning Superbowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks were almost upset on their matchup on the 9th versus the highly competitive and young New England Patriots. With Sam Darnold going down early in the first fans feared that Drew Lock wouldn’t be able to match the status quo offensive output presented by Sam Darnold last year, however Lock rose to the occasion and secured a 13-10 win for the Seahawks.
The New Orleans Saints duked it out against the Detroit Lions, losing by just a singular point in overtime.
The Baltimore Ravens steamrolled the Indiana Colts 41-23, giving fans a promising hope for what’s to come as the season matures.
Caleb Willaims and the Chicago Bears made an absolute statement on Sunday as Williams led the Bears to victory and The Carolina Panthers would remain competitive throughout the first three quarters before the Bears finally pulled the game away.
Week two of the NFL has the Broncos matched up against the Jacksonville Jaguars where hopefully the Broncos can emerge with a win.
On the other end of local sports, the Colorado Rockies continue their losing streak. The Rockies have not won a singular game since Saturday, Sept.10th versus the Cardinals. Since then, the Rockies have lost to the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and are now in the middle of a four-game series against the San Diego Padres, where the Padres beat them in game one on Monday, 8-7. Game two is set for Tuesday September 15th at 6:40 p.m. Games three and four take place on Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. and Thursday at 1:10 p.m. Later the Rockies are lined up for three versus the Seattle Mariners, game one at 6:10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18th.
