The Denver Broncos over the weekend improved their record to 5-2 with their 30-16 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on enemy turf.
Sunday afternoon’s game brought Denver fans their first game where the Broncos scored on all quarters of the matchup, with Bo Nix looking considerably better in this matchup than previous weeks. With a little over 50 percent in completions Nix threw for 15/29 on 222 yards and one touchdown. Surprisingly, it would be Nix leading the team in rushing yards as he totaled out 74 yards on 7 carries. Nix’ rushing efforts would pay off early as his touchdown would come from a 64-yard statement touchdown to extend the lead to 13-6 in the second quarter.
Nix’ comment on his statement plays in the post game presser looked to shut down any doubts, when asked about him feeling athletically fine Nix replied with, “You believe me now?”
Unfortunately, however, Sunday’s affair came with two tolls. Both Jaylen Waddle and defensive lineman Zach Allen went down. Waddle suffered a chest injury that was already giving him issues last week with limited play at both practices. His return is questionable as they evaluate the injury; Sean Payton even taking the blame on Waddle’s injury. Zach Allen went down with a hamstring injury; although Allen claims to be OK, urging fans not to worry.
The Broncos will look to ride off the momentum of a three-game winning streak and their solid performance against the Cardinals to earn redemption against the Kansas City Chiefs. In their last outing the Chiefs brutalized the Broncos 31-10. Their matchup is set for Sunday, November 1st at 2:25 p.m. MST in the Mile High City.
The Colorado Avalanche also played on Sunday, facing off against the Nashville Predators. Unlike the Broncos, the Avalanche fell short and suffered a painful 2-6 loss in enemy territory. Scott Wedgewood in the net accumulated a lackluster .829 save percentage with 35 shots on goal.
Team captain and veteran Gabriel Landeskog commented on the team’s performance stating, “I thought we sucked.” An existing issue the Av’s have suffered from is unfortunately effort and sloppy playing. The Avs gave up two just in the first period and would continue to play catchup as they accumulated 9 penalties with 21 penalty minutes, on top of lack of discipline in this game. The Av’s were hemmed in their own zone and outworked as they only produced 21 shots on net compared to Nashville’s 35.
The Avs look to shake off this loss on Wednesday October 28th where the Avs play the New Jersey Devils on home ice.
The Denver Nuggets are now two games into the 26-27 NBA season and so far, they’re doing Denver Nugget things. In their last game the Nuggets fought off a hungry New Orleans Pelicans squad in overtime on Saturday, October 24th, with rookie Trevon Brazile being the “X-factor” according to superstar Nikola Jokic. It’s going to be exciting for Denver fans and those alike to see how Brazile evolves and fits into this team as he continues to improve and define his role on the nuggets roster.
The final to that game would be a hard-fought 141-135. Sitting at a neutral 1-1 this season and with eighty more games to go, the Nuggets just like the Av’s have time to adjust as the season evolves.
At the time of writing the Nuggets are set to face the Golden State Warriors on Monday, October 26th at 8:00 p.m. on home court.
