Broncos injuries mount and Rockies show signs of improvement

Date:

With four days left in Broncos training camp, more developments have emerged as they near the NFL preseason. Practice on Monday, August 10, showed a “dialed in” Bo Nix excelling in passing drills.

Unfortunately, injuries appear to be training camp’s theme with more emerging since the last week’s update. Michael Deiter is now on the Broncos’ injured list, joining starter Luke Wattenberg and backup Alex Forsyth. Deiter was carted off the field during practice. Marvin Mims suited up for today’s practice; however, he remained sidelined along with Jaylen Waddle, Alex Palczewski, Nate Adkins, Michael Bandy, and Dasan McCullough. Sean Payton and the Broncos team are reportedly looking into all factors that might be contributing to these injuries.

The record-high heat is one of several likely factors. Pre-practice preparation and hydration are some of the factors being analyzed when evaluating injuries. The Broncos are reportedly now implementing decompressing drills at the end of practices to help lighten the load and boost recovery for players.

Some good news has emerged as well as running back J.K. Dobbins returned to pads for practice on Tuesday after he had an early exit on Monday, Aug. 10.

Pat Bryant and Riley Moss continue to impress and shine this camp. Pat Bryant reportedly remains competitive and the likely candidate for the WR3 slot right behind the likes of Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle, two elite receivers. Riley Moss’s mentality and work ethic persists with each practice. It remains likely that Moss will hold his number two spot at cornerback.

The Denver Broncos will face the Atlanta Falcons in their first preseason game on Friday, Aug. 14 at Empower Field at Mile High at 4 p.m.

In other Denver sports, the Colorado Rockies kicked off a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks, losing 9-0, Aug. 10. Game two on Tuesday night, Aug. 11, in Arizona, ended with a final score of Rockies 3, Diamondbacks 2. Game three on Wednesday, Aug. 12, series ended with a score of Colorado 3, Arizona 2.

Colorado will kick off a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants on Friday, Aug. 14, closing the series on Sunday in San Francisco.

While the Rockies are still far from competing for the division pennant, the team has significantly improved since last year’s disastrous season. Their current record, 46-73, is already an improvement from last year’s 43-119. However, the season is still ongoing. Hopefully, these improvements will continue as the Rockies try to re-establish themselves as legit contenders.
