Waste site collapses in Guinea
A waste site near homes in Guinea collapsed, killing at least 31 people. Around 22 others were injured. The trash collapsed on nearby homes, and the country’s military was deployed to search for survivors. Officials had recently ordered people who lived near the site to move, but several people chose to stay.
Group accused of poisoning elephants
Officials in Kenya arrested four people who are accused of poisoning at least 18 elephants in the Amboseli National Park. The arrests were made after tests found traces of cyanide in the elephants’ stomachs. Officials believe the animals ate large amounts of tomatoes that were sprayed with illegal pesticides.

More than 2.98 million Teslas in China have been recalled because of safety concerns. Officials found that hidden door handles in the vehicles are difficult to locate and open in emergency situations. Other brands recalled were Chinese carmakers Xpeng, Xiaomi, and Geely.

Ukrainian drone strikes targeted warehouses that belong to Ozon, Russia’s second-largest online retailer. The company said several people were injured from the strikes, and Russia President Vladimir Putin promised the country would target important Ukrainian economic sectors.
Teenager killed in sword attack
A 17-year-old girl was killed at a high school in Sweden from a sword attack. Police arrested an 18-year-old man and are treating the case as murder or attempted murder. The attack occurred when students were returning to school after summer break.

Bus and lorry collide in Brazil
A head-on collision between a minibus and a lorry in southern Brazil killed at least 23 people, including two children. The minibus was transporting patients and their relatives to health appointments. Brazil has had more than 34,000 people die in traffic accidents since 2023, according to the World Bank.

Tens of thousands of people told to evacuate area near Reno
Around 42,000 people were told to evacuate from an area near Reno, Nevada because of a large wildfire. The fire was first reported Saturday morning and has burned around 23 square miles. Wind and other weather conditions have caused the fire to spread. There are currently 79 wildfires nationwide.
Eight killed in plane crash in Alaska
The United States military said a plane crash killed all eight people on board in Alaska. The incident occurred at a remote US Air Force Site, and two US Army Corps of Engineers employees were aboard. Officials haven’t announced who the other passengers were, and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
