Cale Makar and the Colorado Avalanche made NHL history as the Avalanche re-signed the young superstar to a league-high $163.2 million contract for eight years. Makar’s contract will begin during the 2027-28 NHL season, with an average annual value of $20.4 million. The twenty-seven-year-old phenom is not only a Stanley Cup champion, but also a Conn Smythe Trophy winner, a Calder Memorial Trophy winner, and a two-time Norris Trophy winner.
To say Makar has gone above and beyond for Colorado and is deserving of this contract would be an understatement. Makar set his sights on Colorado as his permanent home for the foreseeable future; it is justifiable that the Avs front office wanted to secure Makar’s position on the roster with such a hefty contract. Paired with MacKinnon who at a point in time was the highest paid player, it is clear the Avs are putting all their eggs in Makar and MacKinnon’s baskets and rightfully so, with their depth and talent persisting into this year. The Avalanche goal remains clear, another Stanley Cup for the mile high powerhouse.
Broncos news has been bustling this past week with the Broncos winning Friday night’s preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings 34-6, Sam Ehlinger was the man to follow on Friday’s game as he had three passing touchdowns on 15/20 passing for 233 yards, as well as Devin Schrader who rushed for 42 yards and was efficient in receptions totaling 90 yards.

The rough patch continues for the Rockies as they broke even on their four-game outing against the Washington Nationals and were swept against the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. After a delayed game on Monday, August 31, 2026, the Rockies lost one of a three game series versus the Baltimore Orioles. Game two took place on Tuesday, September 1st where the Rockies squeezed out a 4-2 victory on homefield. TJ Rumfield would be the man to ignite a fire for the roster as he broke the tied game in the 7th inning with a two-run homer to secure the W for the Rockies. This was a part of his retirement statement, “I swear to you that I always gave everything, not only the last few years where everything was won, but also before and I always fought and left everything for this shirt, to give them joy and make them feel proud to be Argentines through football.” Messi will have retired with one FIFA world cup, and a host of individual trophies. The Argentine will continue at his time with Inter Miami CF and has not made a statement about his retirement there.
