The Denver Broncos brought their sports fans another stress-inducing win 23-17 on their Sunday afternoon showdown versus the now 0-5 Los Angeles Chargers.
What should’ve been an absolute devastation on the Broncos’ end turned into another late-game scramble to squeeze past another team for another “gritty win”. The Broncos continue to allow runs to mature past the five-yard line, however, outside of the run defense, everything else is working well. The defense dismantled Justin Herbert’s pocket and totaled out for 5 sacks to pair with their suffocating presence. On top of the sacks, Brandon Jones would also nab one of Herbert’s who passes out of the air for an interception.
Bronco’s safety, Talanoa Hufanga went down Sunday afternoon as well. Hufanga sustained an ankle injury and was reportedly not at the most recent Broncos’ practice. He will likely be out for the Broncos and Seattle game.
RJ Harvey was virtually non-existent on Sunday. The twenty-five-year-old running back had three carries for seven yards. The offense instead opted for a JK Dobbins’ led-run game totaling eighteen carries on sixty-eight yards and a touchdown.
One problem stood out Sunday like a sore thumb, and it’s a problem sport fans and analysts have been saying since week 1 of Broncos’ football. Will Bo Nix return to his former self? It is very apparent that this season’s Nix is vastly different from last season’s Nix. There’s so much to speculate on why exactly Nix is struggling to perform. But the only thing that matters is, will Nix ever return to the caliber of player he was before his ankle injury; or will the lights prove to be too bright for the young quarterback? Regardless of the circumstances at hand the most faithful Broncos sports fans remain hopeful that Nix will overcome and deliver.
With Nix’ performance and the growing injury list, Thursday night’s matchup at 6:15 p.m. against the Seattle Seahawks is concerning.
From punts to puck, on the other side of local sports, the Colorado Avalanche made a statement in RIVAL territory against a former fan-favorite Mikko Rantanen and the likes of the Dallas Stars.
The Av’s edge off a hard-fought 3-2 win Tuesday night where Artturi Lehkonen was the man to start the offense sending a puck into the net in the first. Rantanen’s humble replacement, Martin Necas scored two goals in the second for the Avs which would tip the scale in our favor. Blackwood closed the game for the Avs earning a .923 save percentage. MacKinnon would also get into another tilt as he got a battle scar from Dallas center/forward Roope Hintz.
All while star Cale Makar stayed back in Denver to await the birth of twin babies with his wife, congrats Makar!
The Av’s are set for round two versus the Stars on home ice, October 14, at 6:30 p.m.
In national sports the Tampa Bay Rays played the Cleveland Guardians October 13, where the Rays took home a 3-1 win to tie the series 1-1. On the other hand, the Los Angeles Dodgers have fallen to 0-2 versus the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers and Dodgers will battle it out for a World Series position again on Wednesday at 6 p.m. MST, whereas the Guardians will look to retake series control versus the Rays on Thursday, October 15, at 6 p.m. MDT.
