Coloradans invited to give feedback on high school math standards

Date:

The Colorado Department of Education is asking educators, parents, families, students, and community members to share their feedback on proposed revisions to the Colorado State Academic Standards for high school math. The public comment period is open until Monday, Feb. 16.

The Colorado State Academic Standards describe what students should know and be able to do to be prepared for success in college, careers, or military service. The standards are revised in groups on a six-year cycle, and the revision cycle for 2026 includes math; comprehensive health; reading, writing, and communicating; and science.

Deputy Commissioner of Student Excellence Dr. Rhonda Haniford said: “The input from our community is invaluable as we strive to enhance our educational standards. Together, we can ensure that our students are equipped with the skills they need for a successful future.”

The department’s 12-member high school mathematics standards review and revision committee has been working since April 2025 to revise the high school math standards. These proposed revisions were presented to the State Board of Education in January 2026 and are open for public comment in one of three ways:

The department is hosting four focus groups on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 5 p.m.; Monday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 4:30 p.m.; or Thursday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. Community members can register on the department’s website at www.cdeinfo.org/focusgroup.

More information about the Colorado State Academic Standards review and revision process is available on the department’s website.
