Lost war, high gas prices and corruption

I just read the proposed changes to the policies and regulations that are used to serve our preschool children in our federally funded Head Start programs across the country. The proposal cuts resources and services to one of the most vulnerable populations in our educational stream.

The cuts are in line with many of the other reductions in budget resources for things like medical attention and insurance that serve a very large segment of our population. At the same time, The Big Beautiful Bill that funded our government and provided a boon to the favorite rich 1 percent of the country also allowed generous amounts to Departments like Homeland Security and Defense to the point that extravagance in their spending and corrupt procurement have been in the media limelight.

President Trump thought he had the power to manipulate the world order at a whim. He proved that to himself with the rather easy capture and default of Venezuela and its leadership.

Among the reasons to move on Venezuela is his unique thirst for oil. His utterances associated with his dominance of country could lead one to believe that his intense interest in its oil appears to be a personal and private concern as much as a benefit for the United States.

Iran is also an oil rich country that seems to fit well with the notion of rolling the dice and acquiring another easy trophy like Venezuela. However, he lost the gamble and finds himself desperately trying to find a way out of the most serious international political error he could have made.

The Iran war is fast leading him to political bankruptcy. The electoral polls are indicating that America is tired of his alienation of our allies and his expensive and deadly adventures abroad.

Gas prices have become a symbol of his ill-advised miscalculations in his foreign policy and his often-corrupt financial relationships with his friends at the top both here and overseas.

It also appears that the President has amassed a fortune in the billions from what can be called transparent misbehavior. Perhaps he feels that he can do anything because the United States Supreme Court has ruled that he can do a lot without needing to be accountable.

His latest gambit in this regard is to charge one hundred thousand dollars a month for early access to information and statements he makes before they appear on his Truth Social account. People and corporation that can afford it are willing to pay because that kind of information can offer important and lucrative advantages in the markets.

Donald Trump came into office in 2017 with a history of excessively ambitious business practices that led to six bankruptcies. That history also indicates that his obsession with making money can lead to over-extension and miscalculation.

President Trump seems to have gone bankrupt again. This time it is about a war he has lost, a foreign policy in the Middle East that is in shambles, not attending to the needs of the country at home and initiating an organic profile of a police state.

In the news is the story of the sailors aboard the Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln who were deployed so long that some began to jump overboard. This is a metaphor for what is happening to the American people.

There is a sense of exhaustion regarding a Congress that does very little and a President more preoccupied with his vanity projects and how he will be remembered. Surely, we deserve more.
