Uganda king buried
Ugandans gathered over the weekend for the burial of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. He was 34 and had ruled the kingdom of Tooro in western Uganda since he was three. Oyo passed last month while undergoing cancer treatment. TV news presenter Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanagoma was chosen by clan elders to serve as the next monarch.
Children killed in DR Congo school fire
At least 20 children were killed in a stampede while they tried to flee a school building that caught fire. Adults were also killed, and officials fear the death toll will rise. It is unknown what caused the fire, and around 300 houses were also destroyed. The country’s government is planning to deploy teams to enforce standards at public gathering spaces.

Dozens missing after ferry capsizes
Officials in Indonesia are searching for around 130 people after a ferry capsized in the Java Sea. Six people were killed, and 107 people were rescued. The vessel was carrying 213 passengers and 30 crew members. It was traveling from Surabaya to the city of Banjarmasin.
Watchdog claims North Korea has two-story uranium enrichment facility
A watchdog warned that North Korea built a two-story uranium enrichment facility. The building is part of a main nuclear complex and can hold up to 28 centrifuge cascades used to enrich uranium. The watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, said the facility is a cause for “serious concern.”

Russian drone hits train near Ukraine/Poland border
A Russian drone struck a train near the Ukraine-Poland border, according to Ukrainian officials. Nobody was injured, but the attack occurred shortly after former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European security officials passed through. The Russian drone struck around 1.2 miles away from the Polish border.
Man jailed after threatening son’s teacher in France
A 47-year-old man in France has been sentenced to six months in jail after threatening to behead a teacher who disciplined his son. Earlier this summer, France passed a law aimed at protecting teachers from risk to their safety or health from a member of a student’s family. The recent case will test the law for the first time. The teacher involved in the situation is in her 50s and is safe.

Nursing home fire kills 16 in Chile
At least 16 older adults were killed in a fire at a nursing home in Chile. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire, and Chile is planning to review conditions of nursing homes across the country now. At least 10 people were evacuated from the building, and firefighters were still clearing debris and removing collapsed metal roofing as of Monday.
Colombia loosens gun control laws
Colombia President Abelardo de la Espriella signed a new law that will make it easier for residents to carry legal firearms in public. The new laws allow people in possession of a permit to carry guns to do so without additional authorization. De la Espriella had promised to take a tough stance against crime and said it’s not right criminals are armed while “decent people can’t defend themselves.”

Canadian boxer George Chuvalo dies
George Chuvalo, a five-time national boxing heavyweight champion, died at the age of 89. He h a record of 73 victories, 18 losses, and two draws. Throughout his career Chuvalo fought boxers like Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, and Joe Frazier. He is widely considered “Canada’s greatest warrior.”
CDC declares diarrhea outbreak over
An outbreak of cyclospora, a microscopic parasite that can cause explosive diarrhea, has ended, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The outbreak was linked to lettuce imported from Mexico by Taylor Farms. The incident affected 21 states, but the CDC said cases have significantly declined.
