Patients recover from Ebola
Five people in the Democratic Republic of Congo recovered from Ebola and are now allowed to leave a hospital. The virus has killed around 250 people in the country but those who get infected can recover. There are at least 1,000 suspected cases of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Former Nigerian general abducted
Maj Gen Rabe Abubakar, a retired senior Nigerian military officer, was kidnapped by armed men. Him and his wife were taken from their car while traveling. Parts of north-west Nigeria struggles with kidnappings for ransom. Abubakar served in a high-profile role as military spokesman from 2015 to 2017.

Explosion kills dozens in Myanmar
At least 46 people were killed in a Myanmar village after a blast. The Ta’ang National Liberation Army said explosives kept in a warehouse for mining operations had ignited and caused the incident. Among the victims were six children, including a one-year-old child. Officials are working to determine how the explosives were detonated.
More men freed from flooded Laos cave
Officials in Thailand announced that four men who were trapped inside a flooded cave for 10 days were rescued. Last month, seven people entered narrow tunnels searching for gold. However, flash floods prevented them from leaving the tunnels. Two men are still missing, officials said.

Hundreds arrested after riots in France
At least 219 people were injured over the weekend after soccer fans took to the streets following Paris St-Germain’s victory in the Champions League final. Officials said eight people are in serious condition. Meanwhile, around 780 people were arrested over violence. Officials allege residents attacked police officers and property.
Holocaust survivor passes
Tomi Reichental, who survived the Holocaust and dedicated his life to ensuring future generations were aware of the history, has passed. Reichental was 90 and lost 35 family members in the Holocaust. He previously said in interviews that he wanted to tell his story to audiences because he feared people were beginning to forget lessons learned during the Holocaust. Reinchental survived a concentration camp during 1944 and 1945.

Venezuela prison director fired
Following violent clashes between security forces and inmates, Elvis Macuare Guerrero, director of a prison in the Venezuelan state of Barinas, has resigned. Prisoners accused Guerrero of stopping family visits and keeping them in solitary confinement for punishment. Many human rights groups have long denounced poor prison conditions in Venezuela.
Possible Ebola infections in Brazil
Officials in Brazil are monitoring two people for possible Ebola infection in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Two men showed symptoms of infection, including fever, cough, chills, and diarrhea. If the cases are confirmed, it would mark the first Ebola cases outside of Africa since the Democratic Republic of Congo outbreak began.

US prepares to print new $250 bill with Trump’s face on it
Officials from President Donald Trump’s administration introduced a mock-up of a $250 bill featuring Trump’s portrait. The law currently bans printing US money with the image of a living person, but Trump allies in Congress introduced legislation that would make an exception. The bill amount would symbolize the country’s 250th anniversary this year.
Biden sues US justice department
Former President Joe Biden is suing the federal government to block the release of interviews with his memoir’s writer. Biden said the interviews have private information and could have details about his memory. His attorneys are arguing the interviews are protected by the Privacy Act.
