Living a full and healthy life

Date:

A long healthy life may be the main thing that people desire. Many people live their whole life dedicated to their well-being. Nutrition and exercise become routine as they try to stay ahead of the aging process.

Many older adults realize later in life that choices like food intake, alcohol consumption, and habitual cigarette smoking and their everyday environmental exposure determine your future health.

While heredity and poor life choices may dictate your overall health there is still time to make changes to improve your health.

It is never too late to eat less red meat, pork and processed food and replace it with chicken or fish. Increase your vegetable intake by eating leafy or green vegetables and fruit, the natural sugar. Drink plenty of water and green tea and limit your coffee and soda consumption.

While many of us rejoice in ‘fast food’ intake, processed foods are the lowest of food quality. They are considered the culprit of high cholesterol and heart disease.

Along with a good nutritious plan, daily exercise is a must. Stretching is a great day starter and a good way to stay ahead with strong muscles and bones.

A daily exercise routine keeps muscle and bones healthy and strong. An older adult can resort to home exercise, or you can join a health center at older adult rates. Yoga is also a great health routine that your body and mind will benefit greatly.

Your mental health is also an area older adults need to maintain. Volunteer work and getting out of your home regularly helps your state of mind. Joining groups that benefit your mental well being like playing games, cards, watching movies and travel can help keep you alert and well. Crossword puzzles, online games are also an outlet to keep you entertained and alert.

AARP.org offers many workshops to inform and help you keep healthy, both physically and mentally. AARP.org also offers various older adult information and guides you to volunteering possibilities and connects you to other adults. Learn how to achieve great sleeping habits and receive reminders of flu shots and other vaccinations.

AARP.org also offers a great resource to good mental health, encourages the development and maintenance of good relationships/friendships, and joining groups that encourage an active lifestyle.

AARP.org helps guide you through your aging process and offers so many opportunities for navigating your golden years with ease.
