Tanzanian President husband dies
Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzania President Sami Suluhu Hassan, died in a hospital in Zanzibar. He was suffering from a heart condition and was buried at his family’s residence in Kizimkazi. Hassan married Samia in 1978 and had four children.
TV presenter sentenced to death in Egypt
Sarah Khalifa, known in Egypt for her TV show Mission Impossible, has been sentenced to death by hanging after being convicted of drug charges. Khalifa denied the charges and plans to appeal the death sentence. Authorities recently seized more than 1,650 pounds of narcotics and materials used to make them.

North Korea/Russia open new bridge
North Korea and Russia have opened a road bridge that connects the two countries together. North Korean officials said the bridge will be used for personnel exchanges, tourism, and trade. South Korean officials estimate that North Korea has transferred $7 to $14 billion dollars’ worth of rockets, missiles, and more to Russia.
Indonesia airports reopen after hundreds of thousands were left stranded
Airports in Indonesia are open again after a volcanic eruption caused them to halt operations for two days. The volcano Anak Krakataua erupted last week and was active throughout the weekend. The incident caused 3,000 flights to be disrupted, and more than 340,000 passengers were left stranded.

Ukraine prosecutor resigns
Ruslan Kravchenko, Ukraine’s chief prosecutor, has resigned from his position. He was accused of being involved in a laundering scheme led by an official in his office. Kravchenko said the claims are unsubstantiated. His office is accused of receiving money to protect call centers that carry out phone scams and laundered millions in assets.
Austria bans headscarves in schools
Girls under the age of 14 will not be allowed to wear headscarves at school, like hijabs or burkas. The law was first introduced by a conservative-led coalition of three centrist parties. If schoolchildren violate the ban, child services must be notified, and guardians could face a fine.

Bolivia military barrack blast kills two
Two people were killed in Bolivia after an explosion occurred at a military barracks. Officials fear that there could be more victims. At least 81 others were injured when the explosive detonated. Homes in the area were also damaged, and people who live near the barracks were told to stay away from the area.
Argentina set to file charges against oil company
Argentina is planning to file criminal charges against Navitas Petroleum, an oil company. The oil company has been operating in seas off the Falkland Islands. Argentine President Javier Milei said he is planning to sanction oil companies drilling in the British overseas territory in the south-west Atlantic Ocean. Milei said drilling for oil in the archipelago is a clear and urgent danger to Argentine sovereignty.

Armed man arrested after charging at Democratic governor candidate
A man was arrested in Ohio after charging at Amy Acton, a Democratic politician who is running for Ohio governor. The man, identified as Patrick Havas, was carrying two pistols. Acton was not injured during the incident but said that members of her team were injured when Havas tried to lunge at her.
Trump administration removes protection for grey wolves
President Donald Trump signed an order to remove endangered species protection for the grey wolve and the Mexican wolf. The new order could allow for pastoral farmers to kill the animals to protect their livestock. The US Fish and Wildlife Service says there were 319 Mexican wolves in the US in 2025. There are 18,000 grey wolves across the United States.
