Ethiopian rebel groups create new alliance
Rebel groups in Ethiopia have agreed to form an alliance to remove the government in Addis Ababa. The groups accused the government of creating war, genocide, mass destruction, and poverty. Armed conflict has taken place in the Ethiopian states of Oromia and Amhara, the country’s most populous states, for years.
Suspected illegal miners die in custody
At least 37 people accused of illegal mining in Nigeria died in custody. Nigerian officials blamed the deaths on a disease outbreak, but media has reported that the group died due to overcrowding and poor ventilation. Since the deaths, attacks on public buildings have occurred, and a curfew was put in place in the city of Minna.

Hundreds of thousands urged to evacuate in Japan
More than 1.9 people across six prefectures in Japan were told to evacuate because of Typhoon Dujuan. Hundreds of flights were canceled, and more than 50,000 households have been left without power. Typhoon Dujuan is the 25th typhoon to hit the region so far this year.
Vehicle with explosives targets Pakistan mosque
Officials in Pakistan said at least 21 people were killed and at least 100 others injured when a vehicle loaded with explosives rammed into a mosque at a police compound. Among those who were killed include 15 police officers and a four-year-old child. Officials claimed the Pakistani Taliban carried out the attack.

Ukraine carries out largest attack on Moscow yet
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine drone attacks hit the city’s main oil refinery and a residential building. Around 450 drones were shot down, Sobyanin said. Russian officials said two people were killed and 20 others were injured. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack on the oil facility and a logistics site in the region that represents “billions of dollars that sustain the war machine.”
Google fined by Irish watchdog
The Republic of Ireland’s Data Protection Commission fined Google 403 million euros for processing data that was not “lawful” or “transparent.” The watchdog found Google mishandled its location data. The fine is one of the largest of its kind imposed by the Irish watchdog authority.

Cuba hit by massive power outage
Millions of Cubans are without power in the country because of another major blackout. Cuba’s energy ministry said the country’s electricity grid suffered a total disconnection. Power was restored in some areas, like hospitals and water pumping stations in the capital of Havana. This marks the sixth partial or total blackout in Cuba this year.
New wild cat discovered
Researchers in Bolivia have discovered a new wild cat species. The cat, which is spotted and about the size of a domestic animal, has been given the nickname Tigrino. Scientists said only one confirmed living member of the species is known, but it is believed that others exist. Officials hope the discovery will increase more research and attention to tiger cats, small wild animals in South and Central America.

Protests over ICE agent who shot and wounded man
Protesters gathered in Austin over the weekend after an ICE agent shot and wounded a Venezuelan DoorDash delivery driver. The victim, Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, was shot in the torso and taken to a hospital. It is unknown what led to the shooting, local officials demanded an independent probe.
Trump announces ban of some media outlets
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social saying he is banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House. He accused the outlets of writing or reporting “fiction or lies” but did not provide specific examples. It is unknown whether employees from those outlets will be banned from entering White House grounds.
