The Denver Broncos prevailed against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Empower Field, securing a late comeback win 20-13 on Sunday, September 20th.
The Broncos suffered from a slow and bumpy start; the pocket appeared to collapse frequently on Bo Nix which stifled his rhythm in the early quarters. To make matters worse, Nix threw a touchback interception to close the first half of football. However, Wil Lutz would be the man to score early for the Broncos, kicking a field goal in the 2nd quarter and another in the 3r.
After a lackluster three quarters of action and a seven-point deficit, Bo Nix tossed a TD pass to Nate Adkins and Jonah Coleman punched home a three-yard run in the fourth. A classic comeback for the Denver crowd.
Week one jitters seemed to carry on to this game and maybe perhaps some negative vibes from last week’s terrible matchup in Kansas City. As mentioned previously, the Broncos struggled, and while this squad is known for being gritty and never out of the fight, it does give fans a decent idea of where this squad is sitting in week two.
Bo Nix is still thawing out after that disastrous end to the 2025-2026 season, and the o-line just isn’t clicking how it should. They are struggling and hopefully the coaching staff will resolve the issue. If no resolution is found, defenses will continue to punish the line.
Undeniably, the Broncos looked good in other categories in Sunday’s game. The Broncos have cracked the code with Jaylen Waddle and appear to be utilizing him well with Nix and the rest of the offense, after a poor introduction game in KC.
The defense looked sharp Sunday as well, after that first half slip-up the Broncos defense held the Jags’ roster to only three points which helped supplement the offensive rally in the fourth. The defense even had an interception of their own with fan favorite Riley Moss picking off Trevor Lawrence’s mistake.
While hopes will always be high for the Broncos, they have a long season ahead of them full of corrections and highly competitive games.
On the other side of Colorado sports powerhouses, the Colorado Avalanche and the rest of the NHL have finally returned to the ice after what seemed like a grueling off-season. The Avalanche played their first preseason game on home ice, Sunday night right after the Broncos showdown. The preseason squad was a mix of seasoned vets and our key talents mixed with the younger guys on the squad to diversify and experiment with this year’s roster. Ultimately the Avs would go on to win a crisp 4-1 victory at home against the Utah Mammoth.
The Avs were met by the Winnipeg Jets Monday evening and lost in enemy territory. As the season unravels and utilizes more of the younger players and they get called up to prove their talents and diversify, the team’s overall stance will improve.
The Colorado Rockies have hit the century mark in losses for a season for the fourth straight time. The Rockies lost Tuesday night’s outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 7-2 loss. The month of September has been harsh on the Rockies as they have only secured five wins since the first of the month. The Rockies have a 6:40 p.m. matchup against the Diamondbacks again on Wednesday. The Rockies will close the three-game affair against the Diamondbacks on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. The Rockies will close the regular season against the White Sox in a three-game outing extending from Friday into the weekend.
